During Lent of this
year, I was fortunate enough to have been asked to attend
the showing of Mel Gibson's film, The Passion of the
Christ. I was asked to attend by the directors of the
parish youth group. The plan was simple — attend the film-
come back to the church for discussion, prayer and
fellowship.
I was asked to be a
group leader of about nine youth members. As it turned
out, I believe that I gained more from their insights and
reflections than the reverse.
Something about the
beauty and truth of the love of Christ portrayed in the
passion was profoundly moving. I was deeply impacted both
by the film and the reflections of those nine youth
members in my little group.
In this world which
often portrays fiction as real, it is refreshing to know
that the truth still does resonate — it still move us like
nothing else- sometimes we need to experience it through
the young and not so cynical eyes of the young.
This summer, take
time with your child. See the world through the eyes of
your children. Hug them. Love them. Seek the truth. This
will be a summer worth remembering.
