JOSH'S FAITH
BUILDING READING LIST
Have
you ever been asked difficult questions about your
faith? Do you ever feel like you just go through the
motions at Mass without any real emotion or
understanding? Do you wonder if some of the church
teachings are just too out of date for today’s fast
paced world? If you can set aside as little as 10
minutes a day, this list of books could recharge your
spiritual batteries, and quite possibly change your
life.

Rome Sweet Home
By Scott Hahn
Wow, this book
reads like a page turning novel that you won’t want to
put down. At the same time it answers so many of the
basic objections that some people have toward
Catholicism. This is the autobiographical story of a
Protestant minister who investigated many of the claims
of the Catholic Church and ended up converting. Rome
Sweet Home is so good I have two copies just so I
can lend it out to friends, Catholic and Protestant
alike.
Life giving Love
By Scott and
Kimberly Hahn
Life Giving Love
is a well-written book about God’s most wonderful gift,
the life giving power of sexual intimacy. This book
gives solid backing for the Church’s position on
contraception, as well as insights on Natural Family
Planning and its proven effectiveness and ability to
strengthen marriages.
Catholicism and Fundamentalism
By Karl Keating
A great book,
packed with useful information and an in-depth look at
"anti-Catholicism" over the last century. It answers
some of its toughest critics. Part of it deals with
early Church history which is crucial in explaining
issues to non-Catholic friends. With major issues broken
down into chapters, such as Mary, Statues, the
Eucharist, Purgatory, the Inquisition and more, this
book is a handy reference. Catholicism and
Fundamentalism is the most informative book on this
list.
The New Faithful
By Colleen Carroll
Colleen Carroll is
a single 28 year old woman who earned a $50,000 grant to
spend a year traveling the country and write a book
about the status of young Catholics today. The result is
a surprising "expose" of a new orthodox movement among
young people who feel like their religious education was
lacking the real essentials to draw them into the faith.
As they roll into their twenties and thirties, many of
them are achieving monumental financial success much
earlier than the previous generation. But monetary
success has left them empty and looking for something
more. They are taking a second look at their Catholic
faith and embracing it in a way that we haven’t really
seen for two generations. This is a great book for young
people who are passionate about their faith - you are
not alone!
Rediscovering
Catholicism
By Mathew Kelly
I love Mathew
Kelly’s books. Like all Matthew Kelly books, this one is
a fairly easy read. Mathew Kelly is known for his
ability to tell stories and tie them into real life.
This book is no exception. Catholicism has received
quite a bit of bad press lately, this book gives the
disenchanted reader a new perspective and a good
positive outlook for the future of the Catholic faith.
