Sacred Heart School
Report

Catholic Schools Week
was short, but sweet this year due to the two snow days
and one inservice day the last week of January. The theme
was "Faithful Past, Faith-Filled Future." We incorporated
this theme into our Opening Mass by inviting a few Sacred
Heart School alumni to
speak
at Mass about how the foundation they received at Sacred
Heart School has helped them to live out their faith
today. Betty Ruppel, Lane Edwards, and Mrs. Arnone all
spoke to the congregation along with current eighth grader
Nick Reed. All feel called to serve others in some way
because of the experience they received as a child at
Sacred Heart School.
Activities throughout the week
included a pep rally and Teacher vs. Student Basketball
game, a breakfast for the parishioners, Buddy Lunch, ice
cream sundaes from WHYS, pajama day, and crazy dress-up
day. The most
exciting
event, however, was the blessing and dedication of the St.
Thomas Aquinas chapel. Many special
people
were involved in the planning of the chapel. The students
voted to name the chapel St. Thomas Aquinas because he is
the patron saint of Catholic schools.
The altar in the chapel is the altar
that was in Sacred Heart Church before its last
renovation. It was carved by Alton Seifert and refinished
by Matt and Reid Seifert. The stained glass window in the
chapel was made by all of the current students under the
direction of Mrs. Kauffman, the art teacher. The Davies
family wrote to Pope John Paul II and we received a papal
blessing from him that sits on the ledge in the chapel.
Teri Johenning and Pat Boyert volunteered their time to
paint the chapel, and Joe Krunich volunteered his time by
carving the wood picture shelf and making the frame for
the stained glass window. It truly is a beautiful,
peaceful place to pray. We hope it will become a favorite
place to visit in our school.
Re-registration for
next year is coming to a close, and we will begin to
accept new student registrations in March. If you are
interested in attending or visiting our school, please
