You don’t have to be Polish to love
a polka party, but it doesn’t hurt if your pastor knows a
good
place
to order Slovenian sausage and has his own recipe for nut
roll to help out the cooks.
Following a festive Mass with
original music played by the Ray Polantz Orchestra on Oct.
4, everybody followed their noses downstairs to McMahon
Hall, where Lisa Thompson and Jen Tavanello of Meritage
Catering had a wonderful feast prepared. They gave credit
to Fr. Joe for his help with this, their first big Eastern
European-style dinner — everything from meatballs to
spaetzle, stuffed cabbage, chicken paprikash and, of
course, pierogie. Like all who came, Maria Choate
(pictured) loved the food.
"For the Mass, they play polka and
waltz-type themes, very appropriate to the liturgy," said
Rich Michney, who chairs the Liturgy Commission that
sponsored the event. After dinner, people of all ages
(like Maria and Frank Manning, pictured with the newest
addition to their family) got out on the dance floor.
"You can’t believe how
enthusiastic people are," Rich said. "It is a little
different, and people really enjoy it.’’
