The weather tends to be damp and chilly this time of
year, but for the planners of HeroesCamp, all thoughts are
on marshmallow treats, tents, parades and water-squirting
games that will take place at Sacred Heart in high summer.
For this year's HeroesCamp, the parish's summer
Bible camp, author Karla Bellinger still was writing the
curriculum at the end of February.
"I am writing Year Five in the HeroesCamp
program, called Coming Home: The Embrace of God," Karla
related.
The heroes for this year include Joseph, the dreamer of
the Old Testament, Jeremiah the prophet, Saint Monica and
her son Saint Augustine the prodigal, the visionary St
Teresa of Avila, and Christ the King, whom Karla calls
"our Hero of Heroes."
Those interested in learning the new stories,
working on skits, music and games in preparation for the
summer program, can attend a Volunteers Preview at 7 p.m.
on March 27 in the Conry Room. Registration for campers
will be in April; watch the church bulletin for details.
This year's HeroesCamp will take place June 23-27, 9:30
to noon.
"To give the children the richest experience possible,
we need tons of help," according to Karla. "We are hunting
for volunteers of all kinds." Volunteers may be adults or
youth volunteers, aged sixth grade and up.
