In biblical times, the town well served
as a place to replenish not only your physical needs, but
also your spiritual and emotional needs. It was the
unavoidable center of town, where people gathered to fill
their jugs of water, and to share their everyday trials
and triumphs with each other. Everybody has a story to
tell, and they are all welcomed at the well.
This year Sacred Heart has opened its
own "Well," a coffeehouse filled with fellowship and
music. The Well is more than just people sharing their
talents; it is a chance for Sacred Heart families to come
together in fellowship and refill our spiritual and
emotional jugs.
Our first coffeehouse was held on
Saturday, February 15 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. It drew a
diverse cross section of our parish community. There were
high school students, families with children, and young
persons both married and single. Throughout the evening
there was a mix of acoustic talent, including piano solos,
jazz saxophone, and some acoustic guitar performances
covering everything from Bob Dylan to contemporary worship
and praise. This was done in the comfortable setting of
our newly renovated church basement, with low lighting, a
votive candle burning on every table, pastries and cookies
baked by parishioners, and watered down coffee. (We
promise the coffee will be better next time!)
We received many good suggestions for the next event,
including a provision in the back of the room (or one of
the side rooms) for children to play, BYOM (bring your own
mug), and more beverage selections for those who prefer to
drink something besides coffee. We
plan to incorporate these changes into the next event and
make it an even better experience for all involved.
What does the future hold for Sacred
Heart’s coffeehouse? Our vision is to open "the well" a
couple of times a year to provide an atmosphere of
spiritual refreshment for Sacred Heart families and their
friends. At the time of this writing plans are being made
for the next coffeehouse, but no date has been set. Keep
an eye out in the church bulletin, and we hope we’ll see
you at The Well!
